Jack's Awesome Paint painting:

I started to make a picture and I thought I'd make it colourful. So then I put some colours on other colours to make it look it has blended with other colours to make it look good. It turned out like I wanted it to be and it looked really good. I did it on the computer using the Paint program.

Don Merton and Old Blue:

Yesterday Room 11 read the book ‘Old Blue – the rarest bird in the world’. We wrote complex sentences about this true story. Don Merton designed an innovative breeding programme that saved the Black Robins from extinction. He died last weekend aged 72. Merton was awarded the QSM, elected on to the UN Environment Programme Global 500 Roll of Honour for his "outstanding contributions to the protection and improvement of the environment", and he was named one of "100 Great New Zealanders of the 20th Century" by the NZ Listener. Room 11 got a sense of adventure and wanting to save something from reading about Don and Old Blue, and found out that every Black Robin in the world is related to Old Blue and her partner, Yellow.

Holiday Homework...

Parents have been requesting homework for their children over the holidays - this is a great way of keeping your child's skills up. Your child can practise: basic facts; spelling; writing conplex sentences about their ancestor using adjectives; reading at least 30 minutes per day; Mathletics; finish the family tree; Realistic drawing of people and things; write anecdotes about their ancestor, etc. They can also practise their maths on: www.bbc.co.uk/skillswise/numbers/wholenumbers/multiplication/timestables/games/

Finn and Jacks' Spelling Spree!

Before the 8.30am bell this morning we tested each other with our spelling notebooks, so we could get a gold medal, so we could give people a big fat juicy word to spell.

We feel happy that we were the gold medalists - we hope to do it every week.

Homework 4 Week 10:

Writing Writing Writing!

Practise writing whenever you can on your special person. Do complex and compound sentences, using things like anecdotes, speech marks, grammar, adjectives, action verbs, etc, etc.

Get your parents to check it if they are not too busy.
