Waiuku by Charis and Sharon

Waiuku is the place to be
and it is the place for me.
You can go to the beach,
you can go to school and teach.
Or you can go to the cafe
and have a cup of tea.
Sometimes you can hear
engines going Boom!
And sometimes you can hear cars going Zoom!

100%'ers:

Today was the first day that Niwa and Tuko scored 100% in the Five Minute Frenzy (C)!  Niwa feels happy, because it's her first time to score 100%, and she only scored 46% in her first test.  Tuko feels proud that he scored his first 100% as he only scored 27% in his first test. Their goal was to achieve 100% and get a good time under 5 minutes.  The whole class is proud of Tuko and Niwa's success.

We had an astonishing 17 people achieve 100% in this morning's Five Minute Frenzy:
Tuko, Niwa, Jamie, Abbi, Ben, Shontelle, Sian, Jayden, Phoebe, Briana, Ashlee, Finn, Aidan, Sharon, Charis, Katiana and Maddy.  Only 5 people scored 100% - Jamie, Natasha, Abbi, Sharon and Jack - when we first started doing Five Minute Frenzies.  Natasha would probably have scored 100% too, if she hadn't been at music.
Fantastic learning Room 11!

100%ers in Five Minute Frenzy Multiplication:

This week's timestable frenzy was easier because there was 1X tables and sometimes 2X tables. Room 11 is getting better because they are getting used to the format and layout. Ben, Jamie, Abbi and Sharon are practising them at home.
Eight people scored 100% correct this morning within 5 minutes:

Natasha

Jamie

Nadia

Jack

Sharon

Abbi

Jayden

Congratulations!

Awesome speech people make it to the WPS Speech Finals Tonight!

It started off as 'We have to do speeches this term kids!' Ms Clydesdale said. But instead of crummy speeches like last year, it turned out that Sharon, Jayden and Samuel bet the class, bet the syndicate and now they want to beat the school tonight!
And of course, all Room 11 knows they will win!

Success at the Syndicate Speech Competiton!

Sage said that it was nervewracking at the beginning and when she got up there, it was fun. Jayden went really well. Sage was about to cry when Sharon was saying her speech, and Samuel's spoke enthusisastically.

Sage is hoping that someone is sick or pulls out so that she can be the reserve.

Only 6 people went through to the school's speech finals and 3 of them are from Room 11!

Well done Room 11!

Successful Speech Competition!

The final session of Room 11's speech competition was held this morning after morning tea, with our special adjudicators, Rose and Arabella.

Maddy, Sage and Samuel were the top Year 5 speeches, with Ben as reserve. The Year 6 competition was very tough, with Jayden, Phoebe, Briana and Sharon being choosen, and Maygan is the reserve.

We were also lucky that three parents came and enjoyed our speeches. Hopefully, we will have more parents watching next Friday, when we compete against the other Year 5 and Year 6 students .

Room 11's Persuasive Speech Competiton:

Room 11 is doing their persuasive speech competition today after morning tea, at 11.30am. Our adjudicators are Arabella from Room 19, Rose, and our teacher, Ms Clydesdale.
Charis's speech is about illiteracy and how we can stop it. Brooke is speaking about domestic animals and how you give them lots of attention, and Sharon's speech is about her lovely mother, who sadly passed away.
They advise you to speak nice and clear, and to look at your audience. Brooke said to know what you are talking about, and Charis said to hold your cue cards in one hand and if you get stuck, then you can look at your cue cards.
If you ever have to do a speech, Good Luck!

Speeches!!!

We are all doing persuasive speeches for the WPS Speech competition at the end of this term.

Some people are finishing their drafts, others are practising their speeches in front of the class, so that they can become more confident when they speak in front of the syndicate.

Brooke's speech is about domestic animals, because they keep you company when you are alone. Sharon's speech is very sad, because it's about her mum who passed away from breast cancer. Charis is speaking on illiteracy and why it should be stopped, and Samsara is doing Katy Perry. We have a large range of topics in Room 11 this term. Natasha won the speech competition last year for Year 5 and 6 students - Shontelle is hoping to be at the top with her.

100%'ers!

Jamie, Niwa, Briana, Natasha, Nadia Shontelle and Sharon all achieved 100% in their Essential List 7 Spelling List, with Jamie also scoring an impressive 100% in the Commonly Misspelt Words!
They attribute their success to having a teacher that has lots of spelling.
Congratulations to all our top spellers!
